Arema

Arema was a beloved great aunt to me and sister to Myrl Goodwin Gudmundsen, my grandmother.

-----------------------------
Arema Goodwin Dalton was born March 20, 1901 in Lehi, Utah the daughter of Samuel Isaac Goodwin and Olena Johanna Anderson Goodwin. She graduated from Lehi High School where she served as President of the Student Body. Arema continued her education at the University of Utah where she was a member of Delta Epsilon (Delta Delta Delta) sorority.

Professionally she taught school in Lehi, Orem, Ogden and Long Beach, California. On June 6, 1928 she married Mark Ardath Dalton, M.D. in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple with Mark's cousin, Apostle (later President) George Albert Smith presiding. Arema and Mark lived in Oakland, San Francisco, Santa Ana and Long Beach, California where Dr. Dalton practiced medicine. An accomplished musician, Arema's piano renditions will be sorely missed. She led choirs and drama performances on many occasions serving faithfully for 85 years with her musical and literary talents in church callings for the L.D.S. Church. Arema led an exuberant and vital life.

She was a capable and wise matriarch to her family. Her love for gardening was reflected in her beautiful plants and flowers.

Her interests were many as she was an avid reader and world traveler. Toward the end of her life she became a devoted fan of the Utah Jazz basketball team.

Arema Goodwin Dalton, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully with loved ones present at her home in Bountiful, Utah on December 23, 2000 just three months short of her 100th birthday.
